Purabi Chowdhury is a renowned Bangladeshi artist. As a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from Visva Bharati University (widely known as Kabiguru’s Santiniketan) India, she brings her rich tradition of Bengali classical and traditional music and dance from Bangladesh. Purabi is widely commended in Bengali community in Melbourne, Victoria, as one of the most versatile exponents of this musical genre.

Purabi hails from a musically inclined family and has obtained systematic training in music and dance since her childhood. From the age of only 3 years, she started her dance training under the guidance of Ustad Anil Mitra. She subsequently took formal training in classical music (song) from Ustad Nirod Baron Barua, Ustad Mihir Nandi & Ustad Jagannando Barua in addition to well-known classical dance pandits like Runu Biswas, & Shuvra Sengupta (ex-graduate of University of Baroda in Bharatnatyam), in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Purabi’s true affection with classical dance and music strengthened when she got the ICCR scholarship from India under cultural exchange program within SAARC countries back to 2000. She achieved the highest accolades with Gold medal from Sangit Bhavana for her extra-ordinary academic performances in B.Music (Monipuri, Kothakali & Rabindra Sangeet).

Purabi has been teaching both music & dance for the last 4 decades. She is one of the busiest and most sought-after musicians in Victoria, Australia for Bengali music, and classical dance performances. She achieved numerous prestigious awards during her glorious journey in this sector. She has travelled around the world and won international acclaim for her artistic brilliance. She moved to Australia in 2015 & currently resides in Melbourne, Victoria.
